Mårten Backström, Branch Manager Finland
Mårten is a founding Partner of Lavaretus Underwriting with over 30 years experience of working in the marine insurance sector. After graduating in 1980 from the Swedish School of Economics in Helsinki, where he studied commercial law (M.Sc. (Econ), he joined Finnish Marine and was mainly involved in Underwriting and Claims for marine cargo risks. He subsequently held positions at Sampo Industrial as Hull Manager, at Pohjola as Vice President and subsequently following the marine hull portfolio transfer to Codan Forsikring (Finland) as Area Manager.

Jan Forstén, Chief Underwriting Officer, Finland
Jan is a founding Partner of Lavaretus Underwriting and has over 30 years of experience within the marine market. He graduated in 1979 with a BSc (Econ) from the Swedish School of Economics in Helsinki, and in 1980 Special Examination in maritime law at the Nordic Institute of Maritime Law of Oslo University. Jan has a specialised knowledge of comprehensive insurance for Power Barges, Cargo, Hull & Machinery, Protection & Indemnity (P&I) and Strike and Delay. In all of these lines he has held management positions both within the underwriting and claims business functions, finally as Claims and Underwriting Manager of Codan Marine, Helsinki before setting up Lavaretus.

Henrik Jensen, Senior Risk Engineer
Henrik holds a position of Senior Risk Engineer in Lavaretus Risk Engineering's newly established office in Gothenburg, Sweden.
In 1976 he graduated as a Marine Engineer (B.Sc.) from the Swedish Marine Academy, and spent the following 25 years at sea, occupying various positions of seniority on ocean-going ships.
For the last 12 years, Henrik has been based ashore, fulfilling his role as a Senior Marine Surveyor, working together with organisations such as the American Bureau of Shipping Classification Society and the Copenhagen based Survey Association. These positions initially involved Henrik in Hull and Machinery related surveys and risk assessments which, over recent years, has developed into him specialising in risk assessment and damage surveys of floating power plants. His experience extends to LEDCs throughout the world.
His most recent employment, before joining Lavaretus Risk Engineering, was as a Senior Advisor within the SSPA organisation, Sweden where he was involved in various EU funded projects related to the future regulations and procedures of using LNG as an alternative fuel on floating units.

Jens Østrup Olsen, Senior Surveyor
Jens holds (from August 1, 2014) a position of Senior Marine Surveyor in Lavaretus Risk Engineering within Lavaretus Underwriting and has experience in the marine and offshore sector back to 1978 – Master Mariner Exam graduated 1983. Mercantile degree in logistic.
From 2012 to 2014 Marine Warranty Surveyor within Survey Association Ltd on behalf of Maersk Drilling and their interested Hull and Machinery Underwrites - Issuing location approvals and rig move attendance.
From 2001 to 2012: Ship Surveyor / Special Advisor within the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) Worked with new building projects of special vessels, accommodation barges, and MODUs. Safety inspections of wind turbine building sites and offshore installation, including 8 years as focal point of contact and responsible for all DMA approvals of mobile offshore installations and LSA on fixed installations within the Danish North Sea Sector.
